Hypocrisy: It’s Super Effective!

Posted by Zohair on October 31, 2013 in Politics, US, World | 65 Views

It seems only a few days ago that Malala was being hailed as a heroine, almost received a Nobel peace prize, and almost became Jon Stewart’s adopted daughter. All because she fought back against one group of aggressors, the close-minded Taliban. The amount of media coverage and general gloating heaped upon Malala pales in comparison to this other little known Pakistani family, that travelled to Washington DC, to confront another group of aggressors, the close-minded American.

But oh, for shame! What is more humiliating than being stood up by the very people you traveled thousands of miles to see? On this very important day for this family, which lost its grandmother to a drone strike — a surgical, precise weapon, remember — came to give testimony to the US Congress and ask what crime their grandmother had committed, for which she was gleefully executed by a McDonald’s munching “hero” sitting in an air-conditioned video game arcade in Nevada. At 66, the grandmother in question was committing the dastardly act of collecting okra from her family vegetable patch. Is it that difficult for US Congressmen to at least listen to the plight of the survivors of this woman?

‘Why did America kill my mother?’ asks Rafiq the son of this woman. The same man wrote to Obama “Nobody has ever told me why my mother was targeted that day,”. “I no longer love blue skies. In fact, I now prefer grey skies. Drones don’t fly when sky is grey,” says 13-year old Zubair, her grandson. Her 9 year-old granddaughter held up a drawing of the drone flying over her village. In answer, the House is silent. Because only 5 Congressmen actually bothered to show up to hear this heart-wrenching testimony. Here are their names for the record,

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.)
Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.)
Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.)
Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ)
Rep. Rick Nolan (D-Minn.).

To this the American troll replies in comments, “Why does your goverment protect terrorists? How much money are these people going to want?” and “Ask them why do you people kill American 9-11″. Apparently, Americans are scared stiff of grandmothers coming over and perpetrating 9-11 and bringing their pre-teen grandchildren along with them.

There is much said about the effectiveness of drones. There is much also said about the ethical or moral nature of their use. Much ink has been spilled on decrying the secrecy surrounding drone strikes. But this display takes it to another level. After all the cries of “democracy and freedom”, all the championing of “civil and human rights”, when it comes time to look at their own crimes it’s a different story. Because America is special. It is beyond all these puny ideals that you regular people think about. `Murica, f*** yeah!

The purpose of this write-up is to shame the people responsible for this travesty. America, you have lost the right to feel superior for your supposed sense of morality or justice. There is not an ounce of integrity in your state anymore. So the next time a Congressperson starts bleeding their heart out about poor people dying in so-and-so place and that the US should do something about it because it’s their duty in some way, hold up this girl’s picture and speak out loud and clear the immortal words of Penn Jillette; “Bulls***!”
