‘Socialism or Death!’

Posted by Casper Ian Zajac on September 26, 2013 in Politics, World | 108 Views

As Hugo Chavez had put it before he ironically died. Although his death occurred when Venezuela was only in the middle of achieving so called ‘real socialism’, this disastrous ideology has already begun to destroy the lives of the ordinary citizens.

Surprisingly, there are still some people who believe that socialism might actually work and for them I have yet another piece of evidence that proves them wrong. According to the Reuters.com, the country is on the verge of the national crisis due to the shortage of… toilet paper. The grotesque that could have been observed in the Socialist Eastern Europe during the 80s is haunting Venezuela now. Socialism is so inefficient that it leads to the toilet paper rationing. Unthinkable situation in nowadays Europe turns out real in Venezuela.

What is even more amusing, the Government is trying to fix this problem by… taking over the factories producing toilet paper. The state agency called ‘Sundecop’ will be in control of ‘Manpa‘, a company that produces these goods of basic need. The state solution to the shortage of this product is to temporarily nationalise the means of production (sic!). Someone has to do some homework. Since it seems that the economics laws are too difficult to comprehend for the socialist Government, we at The Libertarian would like to remind them that only free market is able to remedy this regrettable situation. No planning will ever manage to create a situation where all the demanded goods are supplied to the customers. Every time the state thinks it can manage the economy it results in the empty shelves. There is a good old saying among libertarians that if you think the problem is the problem, wait until you see the Government’s solution to that problem. Here the state has chosen the worst possible course of action. As long as free market is not allowed to do its job, there is absolutely no way the Venezuelans will see any improvement. Shortage of something as basic as toilet paper illustrates well what a bankrupt system socialism is.

There should be no need to conduct socialist experiments anymore since the history has seen them tens of times and every single one of them failed. There is more than enough evidence to bury this evil ideology deep underground and forget this unfortunate episode of human history once and for good.
